Professor Khoo Teng Aun was one of the SMU ‘pioneers’, the faculty who formed the start-up team for Singapore’s third university. He joined the start-up team in 1999. Today he is a faculty member of the School of Accountancy and teaches corporate reporting and taxation. His research interests include internet financial reporting, multinational companies, cost and management accounting systems, taxation, and entrepreneurial studies. He also teaches in SMU’s master of IT in business and in Nanyang Technological University’s master of business administration.
For the first ten years of his career Professor Khoo worked as an auditor, company secretary and financial accountant. In 1994, he joined the finance and accountancy department at the National University of Singapore before pursuing his master’s degree with Macquarie University. From 1987 to 1999, he taught accounting and taxation at Nanyang Technological University.
He is currently a member of Singapore’s Income Tax Board of Review and the Ministry of Education (Singapore) focus group for projects. He was a tax examiner for the income tax paper for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and is currently an assessor for Association of Taxation Technicians’ advanced taxation course. He also teaches taxation for the Tax Academy of Singapore. He is currently a fellow member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore.
